Gopa Boxing Club is for anyone who wants to really learn boxing
We take boxing pretty seriously. We love this sport. We love to fight. Most importantly, we believe boxing is a powerful tool for self-improvement. Boxing trains the mind and the body equally. It trains our minds in perseverance, focus, positive self-image, and emotional regulation. It trains our bodies for strength, stamina, coordination, and balance.
Our goal at GBC is to offer a boxing training program at an affordable price because it is a force for good in our communities. We want quality boxing instruction from an experienced coach to be as accessible as possible (while still paying our bills!).
Head Coach Alfredo Gopa has 20+ years of experience teaching boxing to people of all backgrounds and ages — everyone from 8 year olds to amateur competitors to adults trying to improve their health. Our members are diverse. What they have in common is a readiness to learn and push themselves. No matter your experience or fitness level, if you come to GBC with some self-motivation, you will see results.
The culture at GBC is a little different than a traditional boxing gym. GBC offers old-school boxing, but in a environment more like a dojo. Respect for self, others, and the facility are expected. We take our shoes off at the front door, put our phones away, and clean up after ourselves. Cooperation is more important than the individual and participation is celebrated just as much as a “win."
Alfredo Gopa
Coach Alfredo has been practicing and coaching boxing and Muay Thai for over 20 years. Before opening Gopa Boxing Club, he founded his first gym, Amsterdam Gym with his mentor, Ercivan M. (later known as Jag Boxing). He also coached for 12 years at King’s Boxing Gym.
He believes boxing changes lives by building self-confidence, mental strength, and a healthier body. Each student’s training plan is designed with their experience level in mind. He works with each student to achieve their personal goals, whether it’s building a stronger body, competing as an amateur boxer, or fighting as a pro.
Alfredo’s approach to teaching boxing emphasizes mastering the fundamentals with proper technique and form. Footwork, head movement, defense, and strategy are just as important as being able to throw a punch.
“I don’t have money and haven’t made a lot of money but I love helping the community.”
